Happy New Year to you all, 2013 was a fanstastic year for us, and we are very much looking forward to a fabulous 2014
as Mr and Mrs Formosa!
On December 21st 2012, on the day the world was "supposed" to end and after nearly 7 years together, Paul made me the happiest person in the world when he finally proposed!
For the past few years, we have wanted to move to where I feel is home, close to family and friends, in Carmarthen. So with that in mind, we decided that our Wedding should take place where our hearts belonged and where one day we can call home. We found the most beautiful Church, St Peter's Church in Carmarthen. We cannot thank Reverend Leigh Richardson enough for accommodating our dream and allowing us to be married there.
We both have huge families, lots of special friends, and we wanted to invite everyone to the whole thing. However, finding a venue for a large amount of people is not easy, but one of my best friends, Nia, recommended Fishguard Bay Hotel. Despite being quite a drive from the Church, it was a no-brainer. From the word go, the Wedding Co-ordinator for the venue, Richard, was fanstastic, and we knew we were in safe hands. From beginning to end, Richard, Gerard and the staff at this hotel were amazing, and we cannot recommend this venue enough.
So Church and Venue booked, it was time to go shopping! I found my dream dress online, an Alfred Angelo Disney dress - the Snow White one - and found that Cardiff Bridal Centre stocked it. I tried on my dream Disney dress, and it was clear straight away that it just wasn't right for me, but luckily the last dress to try on was the one to make my heart leap. It sparkled, it made my waist look tiny, and both my Mother and Sister agreed that this dress was the one - a Sophia Tolli dress called Estrella. I also fell in love with the sparkly veil and tiara that went so perfectly with it - I looked like a bride, I felt like a Princess Bride, and I just couldn't wait to marry my Prince!
I found the perfect bridesmaid dresses for my three sisters, a gorgeous claret colour which complemented our Berry colour scheme. Although I had many friends and nieces-to-be that would have absolutely qualified for being my bridesmaids, I had always said that my sisters, Lowri, Meleri and Rhianedd would be my bridesmaids, and it just made things easier. However, I couldn't resist having our God-daughter, Ellie Ffion, as our flower girl, she is such a massive part of our lives and we love her dearly.
Paul chose his brother, Andrew, to be his Best Man, and his nephew, Lucas, and brother-in-law, Gareth, to be his Ushers - and what a fine-looking bunch they made. Paul and Andrew wore Tail-coat suits, Paul chose an Ivory waistcoat, and Best Man, Ushers and Fathers wore gorgeous Ivory and Berry waistcoats and cravats. Thank you to Evans and Wilkins, Carmarthen, for providing such a fantastic service, we both absolutely loved the Peter Posh range.
The lovely Sarah from Petit Pois Unique was in charge of flowers and she made the most beautiful bouquet for me, I think it's the best bridal bouquet I have ever seen. Sarah also did the button-holes for the Wedding party, for a young girl starting out in this business, I cannot speak highly enough for her skills, she is amazing. To add a little sentiment to the bouquet, I attached heart-shaped lockets which included pictures of our family members who are now angels. It was my little way of including them in our Wedding, I would quite literally be walking down the aisle with them, this was very special to me.
My Mother created the bridesmaids bouquets and I was so proud, she has always been creative and artistic, but she had really out-done herself with her bouquests, they were stunning. She also did a beautiful job of the flower-arranging in the Church, and I will never forget the amount of time and work she put into helping us have our dream day.
With us living so far away from , it made sense for me to stay at my sister's house the night before the Wedding, Lowri lives in a gorgeous farmhouse in rural Carmarthenshire with her partner, Aled, it is the ultimate Wedding preparation location! I was so chuffed when we were announced Wedding of the Week on the Welsh TV channel S4C on the weather forecast, thank you to Lowri for putting our Wedding forward, it was truly a gift I will treasure forever. So us four sisters and one of my best friend's from childhood, Caroline, had a really chilled out night, we had some wine, they gave me lovely gifts, Caroline even lent me her cherished guardian angel pin as my something borrowed.
The next morning, we were up at 7am, and Victoria joined the party to do our hair, I was going for a Mark Spain painting look, a curly up-do, and it was stunning. My sisters had their hair down and curly with a little glimpse of sparkle, and they looked absolutely beautiful. Lowri was in charge of make-up, she chose Mac make-up as it is known for looking flawless, I could not have asked for a better person to do my face, it was amazing.
We had booked Peter Meredith Photography to cover our Wedding, and so Clare arrived to take some preparation shots. Clare went above and beyond the call of duty, she even tied up my dress at the back! My Uncle Gerallt then arrived in a stunning posh silver Volvo to take me and my Father to the Church. An amazing gift from Uncle Gerallt and his family, it meant a lot.
I arrived at the Church and as soon as I walked through the door, I immediately felt over-whelmed, it was packed to the brim with familiar faces, but then I saw Paul, and I couldn't believe that the day had finally arrived. I apparently sprinted down the aisle, but fair play, I had waited a long time for this! The Ceremony went by like a dream, Reverend Leigh Richardson was fantastic, and we had a great response from our guests saying what a brilliant Ceremony it was. My 12 year old cousin, Guto, seemed very confident filming the event, and we can't wait to see the finished result he is busy editing for us. Paul's nephew, Lucas, and niece, Alexis, did the readings for us, and they both read wonderfully. And before we knew it, it's was over, and we were finally Husband and Wife and it was time to sign.
I asked one of my bestest friends to sing for us at the Ceremony, she has the most amazing voice, even before I met Paul, I knew that Nia would be singing at my Wedding. To add to the magic, we were thrilled when our wonderful friend, Mark, offered to play the flute for us too, he is a fantastic flutist. As we sat in the back room of the Church signing the register, we were all absolutely blown away by this perfect duo who had never met before let alone performed together...
we may have created something special here, watch this space! ;-)
What felt like a hundred photos later, we were in the posh car heading to Fishguard and Uncle Gerallt had a bottle of champagne and a couple of flutes ready for us for our special trip - a really lovely touch, and probably one of the most enjoyable and most needed drinks we have ever had!
In all fairness, our photographers Peter and Clare from Peter Meredith Photography had a massive job, and they did it so well. You certainly get a lot for your money with this company, with two photographers taking non-stop pictures for as long as they can possibly keep you, they are well worth every penny. We are not the most photogenic couple either so they did have their work cut out for them, and we were relieved that they were able to get a few good shots of us!
Another few hundred or so pictures later and we entered a huge room full of smiling faces, it was an amazing feeling. The room was beautiful, Chair Covers Wales sorted the chair covers with the Berry chair sashes and the Top Table swag, and we were so glad that we had included chair covers in our budget, the room looked stunning. The centrepieces were inspired by the magical rose in Beauty and the Beast. And the tables were named after Forest Friends, you can tell from the clothes on Daffodili how much we love our Woodland Creatures, and my sister, Meleri, worked so hard on getting the animal pictures done in time for our 19 tables! The food was delicious, probably the best food I have ever had at a Wedding, and so many guests told us the same thing. The speeches were brilliant too, they were all funny, confident and heart-felt, my Father, Paul and Andrew did amazingly well.
One of my favourite things about the day was hearing that the little girls wanted to see the Princess - cute!!
Our DJ was my good friend, Gareth Brown aka Brownski Beat who was the resident DJ when I was in University. He did not disappoint, the dance-floor was filled all night. Our first dance was the Glee version of Aerosmith's Dream On. And with Paul's Father's family from Corfu, the night couldn't have gone by without some Greek Dancing which everyone enjoyed, thank you to my sister-in-law, Ann-Marie, for sorting out the Greek music for us, it meant so much to us both. I even surprised Paul (and myself!!) with a song, Shania Twain's From This Moment On, I felt it was an appropriate song for me to sing.
We didn't go to bed until 5am - the day and night had flown by, but it was truly an amazing day.
The next day we went to stay in the Giltar Hotel in Tenby, we had a sea-view room which was beautiful. The staff were lovely, they really know how to make you feel special. We had a wonderful time looking out at the sea reading our Wedding cards and opening gifts, thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this joy.

We are so full of gratitude that we cannot contain it, and we are very lucky that with this Daffodili blog we have a platform online to show appreciation and to promote the services that have served us so well. A massive thank you to everyone who helped make our big day the biggest of days, thank you for travelling to be a part of it, thank you for dancing and for the lovely well wishes. And thank you so much to our parents who certainly helped make it the special day we will remember forever.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts - Catrin and Paul Formosa
